The Snaidero Idea

The design

The new kitchen was designed by Lucci & Orlandini, two architects Snaidero has worked with for years thanks to their design concept, which is perfectly compatible with Snaidero's product philosophy. For Lucci & Orlandini, in fact, design is“functional form” : the beauty of form conceals the technological research, innovation and total simplicity of function.

The choice of simplicity is very congenial to the two architects who, during the general development stage, decided not to use complex electromechanical mechanisms in order to eliminate the risks deriving from black-outs and malfunctions and to limit the price of the final product.

In the case of Skyline_lab, the design concept was extended to take on the meaning of Universal Design, i.e. design which eliminates difficulties in using products by adapting their complexity to the target users’ level, even the less specialised and the less able.

Preliminary sketch of the kitchen

As the photo shows, the worktop features a particularly ergonomic contoured shape which allows people sitting in wheelchairs to access every space and keep everything within easy reach. The edge is rounded and has no sharp corners and there are large areas for eating and for other functions.

The space under the worktop is totally cleared and accessible.

The special carousels on the worktop are fitted with retainers to prevent objects from falling off the shelves. The latter are made from glass so that people sitting down can see the objects all the same.

The sink was especially designed with lowered basins in order to allow users' legs to enter the underlying space and simplify washing for wheelchair users.
